About SACCEC

We provide free compassionate care for victims of sexual assault in Eastern CT.

Our Mission

At SACCEC, we are guided by our mandate to provide comprehensive, confidential, free services to victims of sexual violence. We prioritize providing trauma focused counseling, compassionate accompaniment, and advocacy services to survivors. Our mission also includes training those whose occupations or volunteer activities bring them into contact with victims of sexual violence, and offering educational outreach to the general public on preventing assault and reporting abuse in their communities.

Our History

SACCEC has been providing services to victims of sexual assault and abuse since 1974. For nearly 30 years, our certified rape crisis center supported victims in Windham and Tolland counties, until 2003 when SACCEC extended its service area to encompass New London county, Columbia, Coventry, Mansfield, Union, and Willington.

With the opening of our second center, we now reach 41 towns in Eastern Connecticut. From our early days seeing a hundred victims annually, SACCEC has grown to become a multi-sited organization offering comprehensive services to more than 750 individuals each year in eastern Connecticut, over 30% of whom are children.

Alongside the expansion of our crisis coverage, in 2003 SACCEC and the Windham County Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) established our first Child Advocacy Center: Wendy's Place, named in honor of our former director who assisted in its creation. Wendy's Place became an accredited member of the National Children's Alliance (NCA) in 2010 and was reaccredited in 2015 and 2020.

Building on that success, SACCEC and the New London County MDT established a second CAC adjacent to our satellite crisis center. After becoming an associate member of the NCA, the New London CAC was awarded the Multidisciplinary Team/Child Advocacy Center Grant through the Department of Children & Families and became a fully accredited member of the NCA in 2019.

The bold double C signals our strength when handling a crisis and our gentle leaf lets survivors and families know that we have them covered.
